The Best Massage

Hidden Gem

Sorry for the delay in review I was in Bangkok in November, and went in search of Arena Massage, where I found the guys outside overly aggressive. I returned to the ground floor of the building (Arena is on 3rd floor), and noticed "The Best" tucked away in a corner of the building plaza. The few masseurs outside were solicitous but not aggressive, so decided to venture inside. The price-list is very competitive (for Bangkok), and I opted for a minute combination Thai + Aromaoil massage. I asked for medium-pressure, and that is what I got. An excellent massage all-round. Afterwards, I was given a cup of (strong) ginger tea very good. This place is just 10 minutes walk from the cluster of massage-places around central Silom, but worth looking for. Not straightforward to spot from the road, but in the plaza of Silom Complex Building. I will be in Bangkok again next month, and definitely will construct "The Best" one of my first stops.

Gay Bangkok and LGBT Attractions

Rainbow flag in Bangkok, reminding you that this is the most gay-friendly city in Asia

Foreign visitors are often surprised to find a number of bars and clubs in Bangkok catering exclusively to the gay crowd, but the city is Asia’s most trendy gay destination. Thai society remains conservative, but has a relaxed attitude to homosexuality. Public displays of affection are frowned upon (for both gay and straight couples), but on the streets off Silom Road, by the famous Patpong night market, gay tourists and locals mix openly by a number of open-air bars lining Soi 4, the city’s “pinkest” street, which is really a small alley. Don’t show up before 8pm, but any time after that just pick an available table at any of the bars and watch the gay world verb by. It’s quite easy to get to, just a adj walk from the Sala Daeng station of the BTS Skytrain.

Bangkok is also known as one of the world’s most transgender-friendly cities, with a noticeable trans population. Thailand is one of the leading countries for sex-reassignment surgery, and cabaret sh
