Every girl needs a gay app

How Tinder is different when you’re gay

One defining feature of the modern gay experience is using dating apps. While there are some explicitly gay dating apps (although Grindr can only loosely be called a “dating” app), we also use Tinder and other Straight™ things.

A lot of young people have a complicated relationship with Tinder, not just members of the LGBTQ community. It makes it a lot easier to put yourself out there and meet new people, but it takes away the meet-cute charm of bumping into the love of your life at Starbucks. Dare we speak that Tinder is even more complicated for gay people? We dare.

Straight people are always surrounded by other straight people, which means they have a lot of romantic options. There aren’t that many gay people in the world, and we are used to running out of options pretty quickly.

For some, using Tinder is a nice way to meet more gay people without the stress of wondering whether they’re looking for the same thing. For others (like me — Jacob), Tinder takes away some of the charm of meeting people organically.

An excellent beginning

I love the concept of the app and how it’s working so far. I feel like it can improve by allowing users to search for things instead of just people, like if I want to see posts on painting I’d like to be able to put that into the search bar and spot them. As far as I’m aware, right now you can only search for user names of people you know, and hope that when you proceed in the ‘search’ section it brings you what you wanna see based on the interests you selected.

10 LGBTQ+ dating apps that are actually worth downloading

Love them or hate them, I think we can all agree that dating apps tend to present certain, um, challenges. (See also: frustrations, headaches, and heartaches with a chance of ”I am going to throw my phone into the nearest gutter if I see another Tinder bio that says, “Looking for my partner in crime.”) And, unfortch, if you happen to be a person who is seeking literally anything outside of the standard heteronormative script, finding whatever it is you’re looking for on a dating app is that much harder. Your dating pool seriously shrinks, and less options = less opportunity to gather someone special.

Hence why it's super important as a queer person to make sure you’re downloading dating apps that are LGBTQ+ friendly—so you can be more intentional about who or what you're looking for.

“Today’s LGBTQ+ daters want to celebrate who they are,” says Michael Kaye, Director of Brand Marketing and Communications at Archer, a (brand eff-ing new!) gay dating app. “Queer daters want an app that understands and values every part o

Then I scrolled down and found some priceless quotes that are fobbed off as user testimonies:

“My gay husband is impeccably dressed. I can’t even deal with all of these straight men in their high-tops and jerseys. Provide me J. Crew, tailored jeans and V-neck sweater kind of guy any day.”

Sabina Montoya - Digital Marketing Specialist, SPRI

“I cherish this about my gay husband. If I do something to set him off, he tells me how it is. He’s not into sitting around, being passive aggressive and talking behind my back. He just tells me what’s going on and how he’s feeling, and we mutually find a way to remedy the situation so we can get on with our day.”

Marci Welsch - Attorney, Swenson & Associates PC

“Gay men aren’t afraid to show their emotions; that’s what makes them a lot like girlfriends. There’s no hard exterior or ‘Mr. Stylish Guy’ act going on; they just generally want to be there to support you unconditionally.”

Brittani Bouchard - Associate Buyer, Tory Burch

Holy actual fuck. What ever possessed Marci, Brittani and
