How long ago did you visit?
The sad news is most of the gay bars in town are in sketchy areas. Even the [relatively] new Stonewall in DownTown Orlando butts up to the Paramore Ave area. Perhaps Bar Codes on Edgewater Drive, but they also have a fenced backyard area where guys cruise for sex (kind of like a "Hanks" lite - Sorry, if you know the area bars youd get that reference). Dont know if that makes them too sleazy for your tastes.
