Superman is slightly more surprising, but only before digging deeper than the headline and realizing that it isn't actually the original character.

Much ado about nothing in my view, just more ammo for divisive culture wars. I understand what @UNCjiggafeels as far as not giving conservatives more fuel, but really...does it matter? They'll spot boogeymen anyway, and we understand this.

How about instead of making existing characters gay, we craft cool new characters who occur to be gay?

Exactly. Introducing new heroes who happen to be gay and lesbian is a good thing, characters should retain their sexuality as real people do. I am against turning classic straight characters gay, as I am against turning classic gay characters straight.
