HCC Central College is the birthplace of Houston Community College and its first permanent home. As the largest landowner in Midtown, HCC’s Central College has elongated history of educational excellence dating back to 1914, and continues to serve as a higher-educational centerpiece in Midtown and Third Ward.
When Houston voters approved the establishment of Houston Community College as part of the Houston Independent School District on May 18, 1971, the first classes were held in the evenings at selected area high schools, including HISD’s Houston Technical Institute.
Today that institute is known as HCC Central’s San Jacinto Memorial Building.
In 1980, HISD transferred the Houston Technical Institute building to HCC, and gave the college $5 million dollars for its renovation.
Today, Central’s San Jacinto Memorial Building – popularly known as “San Jac” – holds a unique position in Houston’s architectural and higher-educational landscape.

Funeral Service will be June 19th, 2021 at 2 PM at Mount Venus Baptist Church in Gay Ga.
Mr. Willie Frank Hall was born on August 9, 1942 in Meriwether County to the late Hamon Hall Sr. and Willie M. Parker Hall. He grew up and attended school in Meriwether. He was employed by Bale Pine Straw for over 40 years. He retired doing something that he loved as a truck driver. He enjoyed cooking and listening to his music and being around family and friends. He was united into Holy Matrimony to the late Corrie Dell Martin Hall, who precedes him in death. To this union six children were born.
He was also preceded in death by children Verlene Hall and Willie Lewis Hall and grandson, Quandarious Hall. Five sisters, Annie W. Hall, Della Cooper, Betty Hall, Sarah Beach and Rosa Hall. Six brothers, Harmon, Lamar, Willie Floyd, Johnny Hall, Norman Hall and Lavion Hall.
On Thursday, June 10, 2021, he left this earthly life and went home to live with our Heavenly Father
