Tantra and Homosexuality: The Art of Sacred Intimacy in the Homosexual Couple

Tantra and Homosexuality

During our seminars around the world, we often meet homosexuals, both men and women, who ask us if it is possible to employ tantra and homosexuality, to employ the principles of tantric sexuality even between two partners of the same gender. To encounter this need, we have undertaken research in the context of the ancient tantric tradition but, neither in ancient texts nor in consulting with various masters, we have found references to homosexual sexuality in Tantrism.

Despite this, we have used our experience as yoga and tantra teachers to draw up some guidelines that are also perfectly applicable to homosexual of all, we must make it clear that sexual energy is born from the energetic attraction between a masculine and a feminine polarity – Yin and Yang, solar and lunar – which are attracted to each other throughout the universe, from the level of atom to the most complex life forms.

5 Step Tantra Practice for Adj Sex Couples

We often get asked if same sex couples can practice tantra. And the address is absolutely YES! As drawn-out as you are human and have a human nervous system, you can practice tantra.

In our lineage of practice, Tantra is essentially a form of energy-body yoga that can (and should) be applied to all daily activities, including sex.

The style of Tantra that we practice and teach at the institute consists of formal meditation, movement, connection, and pleasure practices. But the true goal of lineage-based tantra is for your practice to infuse every moment of every day, so that there is no separation between your train and your LIFE.

Therefore, Tantra is designed to be practiced anytime, anywhere, and with any BODY with whom you feel a heart connection.

In the video below we demonstrate a tantric meditation practice for same sex couples that uses yogic breathing to entrain the nervous systems and align the energy bodies of both/all partners (yes you can do these practices as a throuple, quartet, or more!).

About the Book

Sex and spirituality are two topics guaranteed to arouse powerful feelings in gay-identified persons because of the history of religious persecution of gay people. Many of us were taught explicitly or implicitly that sex, especially gay sex, is the antonym of spirituality. Gay popular culture thrives in the senses, be it opera, disco, or leather. Futhermore, gay sensuality is deeply rooted in homoeroticism, the inescapable fact that we inhabit bodies of a kind likely to be erotically stimulating to ourselves. We need a spirituality that works with our sensuality, not against it. Traditional Hindu Tantra offers exactly this type of spirituality. This ground-breaking text reveals how traditional Hindu Tantra may be adapted easily to assist the unique spiritual a

Regarding homosexuality, while this has not been my personal lifestyle, the principles of tantra are clearly beyond such distinctions. For example, celibates have a clear path to enlightenment, as do heterosexuals. Neither is inferior to the other. The principles underlying both are the same, and the methods are similar. If you review the tantra lessons, you will see that this is so. Brahmacharya is the key, which is preservation and cultivation of sexual energy. See lesson #T9 on this. There is no reason why homosexuals cannot travel the road to enlightenment within the lifestyle they are living. I am sure many have over the centuries. The sitting practices will be just the same, including those that cultivate the expansion of sexual function upward in the nervous system. The holdback method (#T4), blocking (#T5), count method (#T23) and other aspects of tantra yoga can all be applied in homosexual relations.
